A Word About My Published Clips
We're working on converting clips into PDF readable format. Meanwhile, the clips posted here offer a breadth of my freelance writing with some notes that freelancers might find helpful/useful.
Society Columnist: Tiffany & Co. Supports All American Girls
I seized the opportunity and asked if All American Girls could be included in guests' 'goody' bags. There is no end to 'marketing our wares'.
Society News: A Super Man
My first experience with the paparazzi feeding frenzy. A Robin Williams moment worth remembering: a young boy asked him a question but was cut off by a pushy reporter. Williams answered the boy and 'dressed down' the reporter for interrupting the 'cub' reporter.
Society News: Aids Walk OC
My first piece on AIDS was published in 1990 when Ryan White died. Once I became a society columnist, I made it my business to promote AIDS related non-profits. My reasoning was practically based: plagues indiscriminately kill. Back when, some folks in the OC didn't want to believe this so it was important to shed light on this killer. Thank God for celebrities who came to these OC events. Their support helped to attract OC's A-List crowd.
Society News: Ben Vereen et al
Society News: Lauren Bacall
My impressions: a no nonsense woman.
Society News: Loni Anderson in the OC
Loni Anderson was beyond gracious, charming and kind; a friend who traveled to the OC to help her friend promote his cause. I did not know her passion is art which she studied in college. We chatted throughout the evening and when I couldn't find my photographer, she helped me look!
We found him.
Society News: Mary Higgins Clark
How does she access her muse? Ms. Higgins Clark told the audience that when she becomes frightened or hears something that's disturbing, she takes it to the next level by asking herself this question: What if.....?
Society News: Notable Authors Appear @ Santa Barbara & O.C. Literary Luncheons!
Jonathan Winters, Maria Shriver, Jack Canfield & Anita Shreves support nonprofit events and sell books, too.
Society News: Perks of Freelance Writing
This piece spotlighted a food bank that offered fresh produce picked by volunteers. My youngest (then 10) and her friends enjoyed the experience and appreciated that farm work is hard work.
Society News:Pediatric AIDS Foundation
For several years, the Los Angeles based Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation hosted a carnival that drew A-List celebrities. At each carnival, Dustin Hoffman read a story to the little ones attending. He told me the Hoffman and Glaser families had been friends for many years and supporting Elizabeth's non-profit was the least he could do in her memory.
By the way, the two guys wearing shades are Tom Hanks and Tim Allen.
