WHEN: When a group forms—no more than 4

WHERE: Montecito near Westmont U.

WHO Should Attend: Authors with 1st drafts of fiction/non-fiction (memoirs & book proposals)

MtheM: The Road to Publication & Platform Building Workshop

WHAT we will accomplish is answered in these questions:

Does the beginning, middle & end of the project hold up?

Is the platform built to launch this project comprehensive?

Are you speaking to your markets?

Does the query letter reflect the work and the author's expertise?

Critical elements of getting published will be covered. In addition to critiquing the beginning, middle & endings of each author’s novel/non fiction book, authors will have one Marketing My Muse folder filled with pertinent information collected from mandatory assignments due each session. Each assignment is designed to build/strengthen individual platforms.

All sessions videotaped. Workshop fee is adjusted to 'below market' to show appreciation for writers' willingness to be videotaped.

MtheM: Real Time Road to Publication & Platform Building Workshop

Workshop OVERVIEW

Session 1:

1st half:

The Beginning:

Attendees will read opening chapters of fiction and OVERVIEW of non fiction book proposal.

Why: Establish story line so participants can critique and contribute to all attendees’ marketing strategies. If we don’t know each other’s stories, we can’t help.

2nd half:

*Marketing:

Attendees should bring all platform-building strategies employed so far in a list that includes URL’s (bring copies for all members). Also, see NOTE

Session 2:

The Middle:

Attendees will read 1 middle chapter (fiction) and 1 middle chapter (non fiction).

Why: Is this story holding up or do we hear ‘flab’- the curse of writing long prose.

For non fiction: Because some non-fiction books have one template for all chapters. I’ll adjust read/critique to apply to this specific.

2nd half:

*Marketing

Session 3:

The End:

Attendees will read ending chapter

Why: Did the story hold together?

2nd half:

*Marketing

Session 4:

Write query letter before session for read & critique @ session #4.

Why: If your story is ready to pitch, writing the query letter should be (relatively) easy.

2nd half:

*Marketing:

In this session, attendees' marketing strategies will be critiqued by a web strategy specialist who's also an author on the road to publication.

COST:

$300.00 for 4 workshops, 3 hours/session, held every other week. Total amount due @ beginning of Workshop #1.This price is quite reasonable for this reason: we will video these sessions-an enormous help to my platform building so it just seems right that I offer participants a good price because MtheM benefits. too.

NOTE:

*Marketing details will be given to attendees only. I have specifically designed this part of the curriculum to target current marketing strategies every author on the road must embrace if they expect to be published. This is a ‘hands on’ workshop that requires author investment of time so if you cannot build time into completing assignments given each session, please do not sign up. In each session, authors will contribute content from assignments specific to their genre that will also be useful to all. Authors who do not complete session assignments will be required to leave the group without refund option. No exceptions. It takes a village to accomplish what this workshop will accomplish but only with attendees’ commitment to work hard for a 6 week period

Why am I keeping my marketing strategies private? I have created curricula in other fields and I know the template I have developed for my inaugural MtheM: Real Time Authors on the Road to Publication Platform Building Workshop has merit. Until I ‘brand’ it to me, I need to protect it.

If interested, please reply to marketingthemuse@gmail.com. Once I have 4 members, I will share emails so you can communicate re: dates should one or more have problems with times offered here.
